Workshop with Deepa Iyer – Thursday, September 19th @ 2pm (Eastern)


In this interactive workshop on September 19th from 2:00 – 3:30 pm (Eastern) for all who are connected to a UKirk Network Ministry, Deepa Iyer will introduce a framework to help us identify our core values, clarify our roles, and understand how we can support broader communities to bring about social change effectively and sustainably. Deepa is the Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at the Building Movement Project and the author of Social Change Now: A Guide for Reflection and Connection.

All participants are encouraged to obtain a copy of Social Change Now, which is available from various booksellers here. Contact UKirk executive director Rev. Gini Norris-Lane to receive a grant to offset the cost of the book.

Meet Deepa Iyer

Deepa Iyer, photo by Les TalusanOver the course of two decades supporting social movements, Deepa Iyer has played many roles: weaver, frontline responder, storyteller, and guide. Currently, Deepa leads projects on solidarity and social movements at the Building Movement Project, a national nonprofit organization that catalyzes social change through research, relationships, and resources. She conducts trainings, uplifts narratives through the Solidarity Is This podcast, and facilitates solidarity strategy for cohorts and networks.

She has been an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland in the Asian American Studies and Public Policy programs. (Continue reading)
